Gestalt Principals & Video
It was interesting to see how the principles played into art. I think that we all know the principles but at the time of creating art or when we see art we don't really recognized that they are used. We see the picture as a whole rather than smaller parts at first and see the smaller parts only after we look at it closely. I think that all art falls under one of the principles if not more. it was also interesting to see how or minds could complete shapes or outlines with out them really being drawn in. It was also cool to see symbols within signs that we see often like the arrow in the FedEx logo and the one in the formula one slogan. I think that we subliminally apply the methods to our designs. The video about color and how it could be an illusion was really interesting because we normally don't go that deep into thought about what we see. Colors enable to see similarity and differences depending on the shades. They eye is attracted to whatever displays the most light. The environment the color is on can also make it appear a different color Sensory info is meaningless but how we interpret it is the part that matters. The brain evolved to see the world in a way that was useful.
Annie leibovitz
During Tim's talk in the lecture part of BDS I think that it was interesting that he talked more about the work he did with Annie Leibovitz, especially since my major is photo media. One of the interesting points he brought up was that because Annie didn't have access that most press did that her shots came out more unique. I thought that was interesting because it forces you to have a different perspective versus what everyone else is doing. Another thing Tim mentioned a lot of was how they would take different pictures and piece them together to make one photo. It was intriguing to me because in high school i was always told to leave the photo as it was and not alter the image to make it look better so it was interesting to see the contrast in the two methods. I also think it was cool how she came up with a book where the pictures told a story about women instead of having words describe them. It was also interesting to learn how they used look a likes to plan out where people would stand when the actual people didn't have a lot of time to take the photographs. Seeing how architecture helped Tim see how to make models and figure out how images would work in the space they provided was also cool because you can see what other type of designers you might work with while doing photography. It was also cool to see the different thought train of instead of taking natural photos to kind of have a thought out photo and figure out what you want the concept to be and what would best represent that and how could you stage it. IT was really insightful to see what it would be like to work for someone who already has a well built name in the business but it made me realize that it would be an awesome experience to have but not some place i would want to stay because I wouldn't have work to call my own

Jeremy Shellhorn
When Jeremy came to speak in Design Thinking and making on Tuesday the 13th he made a lot of interesting points. Before i heard him speak i actually didn't know there was such a thing as motion graphics. I think they are cool because they tell a story using sound and pictures. IT also gets you to think about new ways to do different things. Its simplicity also gets you to think more about typography. You have to ask yourself whats the story , is there any symbols that could help and how does it make you feel. You also have to be aware of any restrictions. Its also a good idea to keep in mind when designing anything how to navigate the space, what stands out from different lengths, and keep in mind contrast. The text also influences the pictures. Depending on what the word is what picture you use can give it a completely different meaning then if it was by itself. Adding a picture helps narrow down to the audience what exactly you are talking about. It's also important to make the audience feel comfortable by making the familiar strange or making the strange familiar.
My Design
For my well designed object i picked a pair of Guess glasses. The glasses are well designed because they are serve a purpose and can do their job very well while still being cute. The design does not mislead the customer or serve false purposes. The glasses are sturdy and dependable and able to last a long time. They are also comfortable to wear without squeezing to tightly. Although they are cute the glasses themselves do not takeaway from anything else around them. They are not overly complicated for what they are supposed to do and their purpose is clear. The design was well thought out but is simple and not over complicated. The colors blend well together and make the glasses look better. The design uses black and one other color of two different shades. They are not neutral but blend in with any outfit without distracting. The design of these glasses are different from any other so its not like present a design that someone has thought of already. Although there have been many square shaped glasses the sides are different. Instead of being the usual one in that goes around your head and to the ear these glasses have a thicker line that forms a triangle and then forms to the one line. It also has the brand of the glasses located on one side. It is well designed without being over designed. It has detail but the details on the glasses do not overwhelm them.

reading #1
The thinking and making reading was interesting because it presented viewpoints that you might not necessarily use when you think about design. It also makes you realize how many different things can be considered design and how design can be hard to identify. It makes you stop and realize everything is design and that there are a lot of different types of design. My favorite sections were the first and the last one. The first one I liked because it gave you a story that you wouldn’t have thought had anything to do with design and then described how design came in effect. The last was one of my favorites because it gave you the perspective of what others might think and made you think about what design really was. What I got from the reading was to keep my mind open to all different types of things and that most everything is design. I can apply this to my major by not thinking that design is specifically just one thing but remembering design is very diverse. I think it will help me keep my ideas original and fresh. I think it pertains to the object I choose because some of them are just basic objects although they all had to be designed they may not be what most people first think of when they hear the word design. I think they were made is what most people consider the basic style but then they made it their own by adding something a little different to give it a new style.
Ten Principles for design & Don Norman Video
I think the ten principles for design was a good article because it was short, simple, easy to read, and straight to the point. The thing that I think was the main point in the article was to keep the design simple and practical. This idea can be used and especially helpful in any major. I think I can apply this to my major when making a design to keep it simple, straight forward, and timeless, while making sure the design can do its functional purpose. I think that all three objects I choose were simple and designed to do their job without being to drab. They get their job done without taking away from anything around them.
I liked the Don Norman video a lot. One of the reasons I liked it so much was because he made a lot of good points while adding comedy to it. He also showed examples of good designs and designs that were good but weren’t function to the best of their ability to do what they were made for. I feel like the main purpose of his video was to show the difference between when something is fun and functional and when the idea of fun over powers the design. I think this applies to the objects I picked because they could be considered fun, cute, stylish, etc., and still complete their main task efficiently. This applies to my major because when you are designing you want to make sure the client can use whatever you create while making it look good so that they will enjoy the product and you will build a client base.
Objectified
I think objectified was a good movie. I liked the fact that it wasn't all boring and facts. I feel like the movie did a good job at keeping you interested. I also like how it showed you how two people who can be really different can make a good team and help to balance each other out. Having people that aren't alike also help to keep ideas different and offer insight that you might not have come up with. I also like how it showed how that random things can help you come up with an idea or inspire you. It also showed how much work goes into designing things and how something random and far out can help you get to your goal. It also showed all the different questions you asked yourself like if you would use it to help decided if the object was well defined.
